This summer and travelers feel entitled to fuel their wanderlust because traveling to international and extravagant destinations has earned its comeback.
After living through the restrictions of lockdown, an adventurous spirit equates to longer and more exotic vacations. Post-pandemic benefits include less travel mandates and updated accommodations says Travel & Leisure. Hospitality outfitters have used the downtime travel years to renovate their properties for foreign guests to now enjoy.
Flexation
When work and school went remote, the rise of the Flexation emerged. This trip combines switching into holiday mode at a new destination while also doing work or online studies.
From families to a group of college students, many travelers took advantage of booking temporary rentals in places that are in demand during the high season but enjoyed at a reduced rate in the quieter months. The trend has remained for those who can work remote.
Micro-cation
Anywhere is better than your home’s living spaces despite the new SmartTV and fire pit installed during lockdown. A Micro-cation, another portmanteau of vacation, is a destination that’s in driving distance or a short flight away from you home. The stay ranges from one to three nights but you still gain the benefits of being away. Other perks include lower costs, using up less less vacation time and frees up your calendar for a bundle of Micro-cations over squandering vacation days on one extravagant trip.
Many hotels, like the Moxy in Manhattan’s Chelsea district, have caught on to the trend and offer last minute deals or special Micro-cation packages.
Staycation
A Staycation, also known as Holistay, is when you stay at home but experience your town and neighboring environs like a tourist. It doesn’t just apply to visiting the neighborhood historical society and splurging on movies and ice cream, but participating in vacation activities at home.
Creating art projects, transforming the yard into a resort, albeit with a kiddie pool and croquet set, and dining on extravagant meals and takeout put you in vacation mode without the financial and time burden of traveling.
