Do you get excited when Taschen comes out with a new resort book? Or discover a new way to use matte black hardware? Read on as you are categorized as a design aficionado. A renovating itch you’ve probably encountered is how to upgrade the flooring. A typical scenario is if you redo the floors or go with sisal, which is the rug go-to when creating a clean, classic look.
Why Sisal
Says Susan Jones of Sisal Rugs Direct Sisal, “Sisal delivers on style, comfort and durability.” Its wheat tones and simple weaves bring in a neutral look while also anchors the room. The rugs have broadened their scope with a range of different colors and materials. It can either cover the room with wall-to-wall options or as a throw rug. Sisal is a great option if you can’t decide on a rug choice.
What’s Trending in Sisal
“The classic gold tones of sisal are trending now along with gold fixtures and gold accent pieces. Also, thicker, chunkier sisal has been trending,” says Susan. “We have a new line of stain resistant sisal that is popular. The stain guard is applied in the fiber stage, before it is woven so that it covers the whole fiber and makes it more stain resistant.”
Sisal Care
Sisal owners know that you don’t want to go spilling red wine on your rug. The fibers absorb liquids like a sponge. Susan recommends cleaning the carpet immediately after it gets dirty. “Clean up as much as possible and then use a damp, white and clean cloth to blot the spot. Do not saturate the rug. Once it’s clean, dry with a hair dryer or fan.” She further advises to use a dry-cleaning method, notably the Host Dry Cleaning low moisture system because sisal cannot be steam cleaned.
Create a Look
Sisal doesn’t have to be a one-room carpet, it works throughout the home. Even high traffic areas like the kitchen and bath work if you choose an indoor outdoor variety. Once you live with the look, you will be hard-pressed to find a replacement as it can carry over from coastal cottage to elegant traditional.
