Fall Checklist Before Halloween

It’s the two week countdown to Halloween, which also means fa la las will be taking over the airwaves. No pressure, but with a few weekends left to fall’s unofficial end, celebrate the season by making a checklist so you can capitalize on autumn.

  1. Decorate the porch: Read about ideas on how to make a festive entrance on your front porch or go simple with a beautifully selected pumpkin.
  2. Apple picking: Apple picking is not just about getting a barrel full of apples to make a winter’s batch of applesauce. It’s about being outside and connecting to nature.
  3. Hiking: About nature, what better way to take in the autumn weather than a brisk hike at your favorite reserve. It’s the ideal time before trails get a bit rough after that first frost.
  4. Outdoor s’mores: Whether you have a fire pit or simply an open grill, s’mores taste good in every season. Gather around with a warm cozy blanket. Hot cider will add to the warmth.
  1. Watch a scary movie: Even if you have an aversion to gore and a good fright, a night covering your eyes and giggling is always fun.
  2. Carve a pumpkin: You don’t have to be a Picasso to make a standout pumpkin, enjoy the tradition and be sure to scoop out those seeds. Roasted pumpkin seeds are not only delicious but they are also high in antioxidants.
  3. Make a leaf pile: It may seem counterintuitive to rake the leaves only to jump in them but isn’t that part of the seasonal fun?
  4. Create a costume: Sure, scrolling through costume options online is fun but what better way to get noticed is with a one-of-a-kind homemade version? From a spooky witch to a vaccinated celebrator, have fun creating your personalized costume.
  5. Make a fall flower arrangement: Just when we thought nothing could be better than summer blooms, fall flowers dazzle with their colors and hearty features. Buy a bundle of your favorite blooms and start arranging. Mix in different colors and fillers for a designer look.
  6. Read a scary book aloud: Whether it’s the classic tale of Ichabod Crane or a Steven King thriller, get a group together for a spooky narration.
  7. Bake a fall favorite: Fill your kitchen with the scents of pumpkin and spice, tinker with new recipes or make a classic favorite. The experience is elevated when you make it yourself.
