Traveling safe in a pandemic has that romantic notion of a classic novel. While today’s times is far from romantic, our first foray on a plane in a little over a year was more exciting than unnerving. It showed signs of optimism for future excursions.
Reasons Why Travel Is Opening Up
Airlines are receiving more bookings months in advance.
House rentals are limited.
Vacation-goers continue to remain in national territory due to hesitancy regarding international travel along with vaccination documentation.
We are using what we learned from last summer, such as taking your own food, gear, linens and making sure your car is serviced and dependable. After learning from a detergent ad about what lives in your linens, I may never use hotel supplied goods again.
Continue to social distance and wear a mask, it’s not as if we haven’t already been doing it.
Travel to open places over Coney Island-styled beaches has become increasingly popular, like the open terrains in the Rocky Mountain states.
What We Discovered Traveling on a Plane
LaGuardia reopened the classic Marine Terminal, which gave us a tourist-like sensation from viewing a part of New York’s history we’ve never seen before. Check in was swift and seamless from not being elbow-to-elbow with fellow travelers.
You don’t have the feeling of being viewed as a potential terrorist, our baggage was handled with care.
There are plenty of hand sanitizer stations in the airport.
You could face a $50 fine for not wearing a mask.
There is one restaurant opened, which we avoided since we bring our own food.
You must sit one seat apart in the terminal.
There are no attendants at the gate until boarding.
They serve limited snacks and drinks, which I declined, and have not served hot drinks for over a year.
You can buy blankets.
Once we landed, I received a message from my son’s superintendent that they will be remote when he returns, which quickly pulled me back into the reality of life during pandemic.
