Meditation may bring to mind people who do lotus positions in the wilderness and breathe out inhuman guttural sounds. I’ve considered myself too high energy to meditate, which is why Whitney Ross, Integrative Health Coach of Whit & Well, advised that it’s time to take meditation seriously. Whitney has gained insight on the practice through Yoga and Meditation expert Sarah Barrington, who guides people on how simple the process is.
How To Meditate
- Meditation doesn’t involve changing into fitness clothes, sophisticated devices or a major commitment.
- Block a time, ideally in the morning, to set your day. If you’re too busy to add meditation into the schedule, it can happen in less than ten minutes. There are even apps, yes apps, that can facilitate the process.
- Find a quiet place, sit up or recline (though you may fall asleep!) Hold your palms upright and focus on your breathing. Take a deep breath, exhale, take a deep breath, exhale. Simple, right?
- Add other elements like comfortable pillows, candles or soft music to heighten the practice. While you breathe, push out any battling thoughts to clear your head, which will prepare you for the day’s activity.
- Set your internal pause button: Disconnect to reconnect.
- Ease out of your meditative state and hold onto the peace.
