Those alpine scenes of snow-capped mountains and frolicking reindeer commonly portrayed on ugly Christmas sweaters doesn’t effectively correspond to the winter seen outside my window. Grey skies spiderwebbed with bare trees, anxious squirrels gathering provisions, is the more accurate portrayal.
The challenge of weather doesn’t mean you have to surrender to winter’s isolating months. Bundle up, schedule in some outdoor activity, and turn the home into a sanctuary. The Scandinavians, no stranger to harsh elements, are the originators of hygge, which is a return to simple, comforting practices that nurture, restore and make the season enjoyable. Practice hygge by lighting candles, making a pot of tea and, of course, include fitness and healthy cooking!
Ideas on How to Have Hygge at Home:
Take a detoxifying bath with mineral infused salts.
Cozy up spaces with warm blankets and pillows.
Schedule in cooking healthy meals and baking.
Stock up on library books and reading material.
Make music a regular part of the environment.
Wear comforting clothes like hand-knit sweaters and soft, endless scarves.
Spend time with supportive friends who make you feel good.
