The Ultimate 2020 Guide to Halloween without Trick or Treating

Halloween is definitely spooky this year with a real live pandemic to threaten our tradition. Nationwide towns are advising against trick or treating. Okay, challenge time! So what do we do when presented with Halloween’s version of a bah humbug? Amp up the determination to make the entire day a fun and safe celebration despite the news. Here’s some ideas for a socially distant holiday…

Wear Your Costume(s)

Halloween is on a Saturday this year so wake up and immediately dress in your costume. In fact, channel your inner diva and have multiple wardrobe changes throughout the day.

Buy the Halloween Candy

That’s right, get the Halloween sized bag of candy and pour into small bowls, place throughout the house and yard, and trick or treat within your own home.

Explore Your Town Dressed Up

Visit your regular town destinations in your costume. You’d be surprised how fun it is to buy essentials at CVS when you’re dressed as a vampire.

Engage in Classic Fall Activities

If the squirrels didn’t gorge on your pumpkins yet go ahead and carve pumpkins, roast the seeds, or smash them in a wooded area to see if a pumpkin patch will pop up. Create a backyard haunted house, maze of hay, take a nature walk to view the colors of autumn, and be sure to take tons of selfies.

Scary Marathon Movie and Popcorn Night

Get the sleeping bags out, popcorn popped, and camp out in the living room for a marathon film fest by streaming your favorite horror flicks. Films suitable for the tween generation are Beetlejuice, Witches, Wizard of Oz, Ghostbusters, The Addams Family and Sleepy Hollow.

Ouija Board

This classic game is perfect for your Halloween weekend celebration. Try the online version at Brain Jar.

Sleepover with Ghost Stories

Create a fort or erect a teepee in your home’s common area and have the whole family camp out together. Gather around and tell ghost stories or read from your favorite eery books such as Edgar Allen Poe or Washington Irving’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

October 31, 2020 can be non-stop day of autumn activity and, who knows, it may go down as the best Halloween in memory.
