Instead of rags and a desperate need for a manicure, this Cinderella story features a small, lackluster closet with a faint scent of cedar chips. Makeovers always inspire, and are a preferable narrative over a woman in the clutches of a sinister step family. Seriously, couldn’t Cinderella simply escape? Get a job? Turning something from nothing to compelling was the impetus of this half bath, especially since the bedroom already had two closets.
Bathroom Makeover: Backstory
The thought to transform the closet began on a weekend with over ten male guests, all hovering around the age of 21, who stayed up late with their beer games and 7-11 snacks, awaking to the detritus of their evening’s adventures. In order to escape the chaos, the best option was to stay away from the home or retreat in the bedroom. A bathroom was all that was needed.
How-To
After securing a talented plumber and contractor from recommendations and an ad in the local website, I ordered shiplap, a commode, sink, faucet, tile, window, hardware and accessories. Managing a week of a lot of back and forth on water lines and the best sized window that would be preferable over an overhead exhaust fan, we had a new bathroom with how-did-I-not-do-this-earlier results.
Before + After
Once completed, we added a porthole mirror, hooks, paper dispenser, art and a ladder for towels that moonlights as a drying rack or handy place to stow linens.
This low-cost addition transformed a barely-used closet into a valued edition to the household. Now back to that Cinderella dilemma…
