If we were to Zoom into private spaces during shelter-in-place, dining tables would look like a breeding ground of kid’s books, coffee cups and chewed up pencils without erasers–a fusion of office, classroom and everyday activity. We’ve built enough forts to populate a nomadic village. We’re experts on the routines of our household and rather not have the conversation about slacking on toothpaste. Now that signs of reopening the country are in play, with a message from the president to return to work, the next wave of uncertainty is triggered. Safety is foremost, there is the profound need to ignite intellectual, mental and physical nourishment, as well as the reality of earning a living. The best way to be responsible citizens is to maintain life at pause when able, reenter society with an awareness that this virus is omnipresent–remaining vigilant on using sanitizers, incessant hand washing, wearing a face mask and social distancing. Says Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York it, “‘violates common sense for states to reopen before meeting CDC guidelines.”
Ways to Remain Healthy and Sound as We Reenter Society:
- Be outdoors, good weather days should be treated with the necessary pageantry: Garden, grow your own fruit and vegetables, take walks, play with your pets.
- Engage in socially distant activities like golf, tennis and boating–just don’t share balls and equipment.
- Schedule regular social virtual dates and small gatherings while maintaining six feet apart. Interaction can still happen safely, which simulates those happy vibes.
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle with sensible cooking and exercise. Be open to a more plant-based diet, which is less of a strain on our resources, as well as homeopathic options to build the immune system.
- Work with your employer on a safe plan to return to the office. If working remotely has been a success, it makes sense to continue this method until the world normalizes.
- From takeout to essentials marketing, support local establishments whenever able.

You look fabulous! We are supposed to have flurries this weekend, which is a bummer since I’ve been living in my garden. We are reopening things very slowly here, which I’m happy about. But I’d love to be able to do something sporty with the kids as they are not nearly as eager as I am to play badminton using the net I’ve anchored to two trees in the backyard! I’m investing in some more fashionable face masks since I think that practice may be with us for a while. I’m hoping Supreme or Gucci comes out with a mask that will be status-y among teens, so they might actually want to wear them if they need them for an eventual return to school. Stay safe! Xx
Ha, you are always the cutest, thank you! Old Navy just came out with their face masks, which seals the trend that this has moved from surgical coverings to the mainstream. I am of the mindset that Luc will be returning to school and masks will be the new Hydroflask. We are having the cold front too, time to burn off all that firewood and more baking! Badminton and cricket? We still have the summer to show them the true way to perform leisure activity. Stay well. xo
