Over a Messy Workspace? Simplify with these Clean Office Ideas

The best place for a filing cabinet is in the swop shop. Did we just feel a flutter of hats hit the air in a free-up-menial-tasks moment of liberation? With so many things to love about our computer’s folders, our favorite is that it supports a clean office. By being diligent with a paper-free work routine, you get shot-outs from designers and environmentalists alike, a partnership we’re always behind. Next, avoid the typical trappings that make an office look like a We Work space by designing with options that are stylish, clean and practical.

Clean yet unique, give your office style with personalized design treatment.

5 Steps to a Clean Office

  1. Go paperless – This may sound more like career advice than an office design story, but we’ll save that for another feature: When you break down your job’s functions to its most basics, consider unnecessary procedures that can be handled more efficiently. Most noteworthy, no pun intended, is to eliminate paper tasks. Do you really need to print out that client presentation or is editing on-screen just as effective? By learning to compose work exclusively on the computer not only saves on paper but having an unnecessary bulky printer. Other paper-free tips are handling bills online, downloading a scanner app to use for receipts, multiple monitors so coworkers can refer to a shared screen rather than printouts and invest in software that can easily create PDF files like Wondershare.
  2. Keep your desk clutter-free – Gone are the balance balls and mini bowling ball desk toys of office’s past that are as annoying as they are space prohibitive. Decor should be left to the furnishings to keep your work area clean and attractive. Accessories should be both functional and chic considering that any addition to a sparse area should have designer worth.
  3. Reconsider basic office furniture – Rather than purchase furniture in the office section of a furnishings store, find pieces in colors and materials you truly love. Our knockout accent chair made appearances in various parts of the home before finding its deserved place as a desk chair, its color and comfort dramatize the space.
  4. Avoid overly matching – While picking an office set may be convenient, it limits the potential of having a unique space. Select a blended yet focused composition of colors and materials, like wood and metal, but keep it clean by avoiding clutter.
  5. Personalize – To distinguish a stye office that is destined to produce epic work, take your time to bring in the right additions that make it your own. Artwork, lighting a simple throw pillow or patterned rug, if they don’t compete with other pieces, will set the look.

  1. I love the idea but have yet to have everything online (my accountant really likes paper!) I do believe that an office should be pretty and feminine. I have a mirrored desk that I keep tidy. All supplies are tucked away in a chinoiserie cabinet. I’m always more productive when I work in a beautiful space. Thank you for more inspiration!
