There’s a lot of head scratching that happens when you are given a room that in no way represents what it will become. It’s like cheating off an exam from someone who will receive a F. Start fresh and study the space. This bedroom seemed smaller than its true size because of a clutter of random pieces that suited the room’s function as a multi-purpose play area. Bins of toys and an open floor may be fantastic if the plan is to erect Lego skyscrapers but an extra bedroom meets more practical needs.
Design Process
By removing the furnishings and painting the room white from floor to ceiling, creativity seeps in. Options open up. It begins with the home’s dominant color palette of turquoise and yellow, which set the inspirational tone. While such bold hues may be too brash for a main, communal room–guest rooms are meant to be experimental. Start with the basics, such as a sturdy trundle bed that has functional value by accommodating an additional guest without infringing on needed space.
Layering and Texture:
For the bed, a compilation of different linens blend well by uniting the colors. Arrange like a sofa by placing the larger pillows along the bed post, situating a single standard and boudoir to give the effect of throws. The design gets bolder by connecting the chunky trim of pillowcases by Stamattina Linens to custom valances in a corresponding shade. Since the white floors follow a clean, beach scheme shown throughout the home, an updated rope rug by Colonial Mills in a smaller size is the perfect accessory to warm up a space with classic appeal.
Statement Pieces:
Once the room is established, add statement pieces to give the decor a styled effect. Stray Dog Design’s Felipe pendant lamp dangles from above, bringing in additional light and the right touch of whimsy. Abstract art is clean, uncluttered and has the right colors to reinforce the room’s scheme.
